As a relatively young member of the WTO, China is in need of training and capacity-building in order to participate more actively in the multilateral trading system. In connection with a national training program on the WTO led by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Personnel, EUCTP organized a 3-week training course for 15 officials from the Ministry of Commerce on WTO rules and EU external trade policy. The training commenced on 22 Aug 2005, and took place at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. A detailed training programme is available for download below.
Additionally, EUCTP also provided support to the WTO Training Centre at Peking University, sponsoring participants to undergo the second phase of their 2-month training in July at the World Trade Institute in Berne, Switzerland.
