Seminar - 1958 Agreement

The UNECE 1958 Agreement is a comprehensive set of technical automotive regulations whereby signatories are bound to selected uniform safety standards for cars and car parts. The agreement is primarily aimed at ensuring safety for drivers and pedestrians, but also greatly eases the burden on car manufacturers operating in different markets by introducing a uniform "type-approval" system. As China's automotive sector grows at rapid speed, China's car exports are expected to increase and adherence to the 1958 Agreement would do much to smooth over technical market barriers, both for foreign companies exporting to China and for Chinese companies exporting to overseas markets. A seminar was held in cooperation with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enterprise and the National Development and Reform Commission in order to raise awareness of and exchange views over China's possible participation in the agreement.
