Translation of new PRC Food Safety Law draft, 12 May 2008 Print
The National People's Congress (NPC) is currently soliciting public opinions in regard to the PRC Food Safety Law (Draft). The EU-China Trade Project has commissioned an unofficial translation of the law to enable as wide dissemination as possible. The official deadline for submission of comments is 20 May 2008. Submissions will then be delivered to the NPC Standing Committee for further study. A schedule for its legislative progress has yet to be set.

The PRC Food Safety Law (Draft) covers:

  • Surveillance and Assessment of Food Safety Risks
  • Food Safety Standards
  • Inspection and Testing of Food
  • Food Production and Trade
  • Food Import and Export
  • Prevention of, and Response, to Food Safety Incidents
  • Supervision and administration
  • Legal Liabilities
